Between years 1914 and 1928, the Pennsylvania Railroad built 425 of these powerful 4-6-2 passenger locomotives noted for their high speeds and quick starts. The slatted pilot below the coupler seen in the photo above is a feature that became a rare sight on this class of locomotive's streamlining rebuilds and improvements after 1938 on individual engines.

Notable cosmetic differences between this locomotive and the TV Series version of "Hank" is the omission of the headlamp and the switching of the American knuckle coupler in favour of the traditional UK buffer and train coupling system.
