Snowdon as Culdee
SMR No. 4 "Snowdon" at Llanberis, picture by Alan Crawshaw from his Locomotive Llanberis website

The Snowdon Mountain Railway, Britain’s only rack-and-pinion steam operated railway, was opened in 1896, and runs a gauge of 2' 7 ½" from Llanberis to the summit of Snowdon, known in Welsh as "Yr Wyddfa", the highest mountain in England and Wales. Maximum gradient on the line is 1 in 5.5. Picture above shows Culdee's twin No. 4 "Snowdon" (1896).
